Last week I was reminded of a band that I used to love, but as time has gone on I just stopped listening to them. This may seem a bit rambling, but I swear that there is a point.
There was a time where my mom and I actually traveled around the state going to Big and Rich concerts. It was so much fun and such a great experience we were able to share. They came out with a song in 2012 called That's Why I Pray. I have recently rediscovered it and it is just shouting at me during this completely insane time. Man on the TV's gone insane, everybody's just laughing People 'cross the world holding on The earth caved in, the ocean came down crashing My neighbor lost his house 'cause he can't find a job Don't you dare pledge allegiance, don't you dare speak of God Now I'm begging for forgiveness I wanna make a difference even in the smallest way I'm only one person, but I can feel it working I believe in better days That's why I pray I know that a lot of my followers are people of faith. If you believe in God or some sort of higher power now is the time to fall to your knees and petition for our country and our values. We are fighting for our country, our way of life, everything we hold dear. We can not allow it to be stolen from us. They aren't even trying to hide their fraudulent behavior. We need to band together and pray.

Last week when I wrote my email I was emotional. I was upset about things happening. I called on people as Christians and Conservatives to start speaking out.
Using the phrase Christian was seen by some as excluding others, ie Jewish people, or people who are not particularly religious. It is never my intent to upset or exclude anyone. Yes, I am a Christian, and that admittedly influences how I see the world. When I called on Christians to start standing up and speaking out it was meant more as a call of people of Faith. I am a Lutheran. I have been ostracized for not worshiping the same way as other denominations. In the future I will talk about my Christianity again. It's a given, because it is part of my life, but I will try to keep in mind that everyone that follows me does not express their faith in the same way. I am happy to have people of all walks of life follow me. We are all different and that is what makes our country, and this community in particular so special. I also want to thank the people who wrote to me and expressed their feelings. Talking to each other when we have issues is so important. We can not make changes if we are not able to have a dialogue with people. The news has been so sad.
Last night when I was finishing up the podcast I saw the news that Ruth Bader Ginsberg. I stayed up much later than I normally would watching the news, listening to the tributes that people were putting out. Personally, I was not a huge fan, but she was a monster in the world. Any death is sad. I feel concerned for our country. This is another occasion that could stand to divide us. This morning I woke up early to finish the podcast and work on this email. I turned on the news (because that's what I do). There was a shooting last night. 2 people dead 14 injured. I am sad. This country is struggling. We have turned so far away from God. It is time for us to stand up as Christians, Conservatives, as Americans. We need to stop compromising and stand up for what we know is right. Check out the podcast this week. Elizabeth from the Joy of Knitting joined us this week. She talks about her experience standing up for what is right after the Women's March in 2017. I would love to know what you think about all of these things. Let me know! I don't know how it has happened, but September is almost half over.
We started homeschooling. It isn't going as smoothly as I had hoped. The kids are having trouble seeing me as a teacher. I am having trouble structuring my day to make it full and happy for all of us. It will get better. I know we will find a rhythm and structure to our days. I tend to be flighty, but in spite of that I still value routine and structure. There will be new patterns coming. Testing for the Stained Glass Diamonds Beanie will be starting this week. This week I released a new pattern, #SaveOurChildren. $4 from every pattern sale will be donated to Operation Underground Railroad. They work to help children who have been involved in child sex trafficking and they also help bring the perpetrators to justice. Please check it out! I'll talk to you soon!! I can't believe it's been over a month since I last wrote on here! As many of you probably know, Anne Pinkava and I started a YouTube channel. It's been a lot of fun, but there are a lot of things to do for it, and by the time I am done working on that I don't necessarily have the time or the energy to come over here and be entertaining. Or the ability to string words into sentences...
If you don't know about the channel, we talk politics and knitting. Sometimes we have cool guests. Sometimes it's just Anne and I being a little silly. We have tons of fun doing it, and if you haven't checked it out you can do that here - Politically Incorrect Knitters - Onto other news... on Monday, my kids and I are venturing into the exciting world of homeschooling. Honestly, I don't feel terribly excited about it. I have one child that will probably strive to do their best every day. I have another child that doesn't always listen and prefers to do their own thing. (I'm a little worried about that one) But I'm sure it will be fun, and painful, and totally worth it. I don't have many new pictures for you today, but right now I have 2 hat designs in testing, BE BEST and #SaveOurChildren. There will be 2 more designs going into testing shortly, so make sure you are on the mailing list so you can find out what is happening with those. Also, the Warrior KAL is sill going strong. It ends September 30th. There are 2 prizes up for grabs, a Deplorable Knitter tote and a skein of yarn donated by Chicken Lady Fiber Arts! All you have to do is complete a project using the Warrior - Survivor pattern. You can join on Fiberkind.com, Facebook, or Instagram using #WarriorKAL. I haven't been as good about writing posts as I should be. (Especially since I wrote this post last week and forgot to publish it!)This season of life has been so strange. The time seems to go in fits and starts. One day flies by, the next may feel like a whole week. How are you doing with the covid restrictions? Last week I released a new pattern. It's the Happy Cables hat. This one is unique, because it was designed by my mom! It is available in Preemie, baby/toddler, child, teen, and adult. You can find it here. I would love to l know what you think about it. Today I am putting out 2 more patterns! They are in support of our law enforcement community. Blue Lives Matter and Back the Blue. They will be available for $5 each in my Etsy shop. If you decide to buy both you can get them for $8. Part of the reason I haven't had as much time is because I have been putting a lot of my effort into the Politically Incorrect Knitters Podcast that I am doing with Anne Pinkava. It is so much fun to spend my time talking with a like minded designer. I love the friendship that has bloomed over these past few months. Last week we had Tina from Awenydd Yarn and Fiber join us. It was interesting for sure! This week's episode deals with yarn snobbery in the knitting community, schools, and mask restrictions. We have feelings on all the subjects. The last thing I wanted to tell you about is the new Knit-A-Long that will be starting on August 1st. It is for my new pattern, "Warrior", which will be released on the 1st. There are so many causes close to our hearts. The first version I knitted for my mom. She has a nerve disease, CRPS. The ribbon for her cause is orange. She is currently working on a pink version in honor of my grandmother who passed in the winter from breast cancer. There are so many different versions you can make. I can't wait to see how everyone interprets this pattern. I hope you will be able to join us in the Facebook group or on Instagram using #warriorkal. Yesterday I was driving my kids over to visit their grandparents. A song by Lauren Daigle came on as we were going through a fairly affluent area. I was listening to the lyrics while driving past dozens of black lives matters signs. The contrast between the song and the signs really struck me. Black lives matters is trying to find their worth by blaming other people, tearing down society and using violence. Lauren was singing about how when she feels like she is not enough God tells her she is. He protects her and the only thing that matters is what God thinks of her. I was really struck by the difference in the two view points. I know I keep saying it, but our country is hurting. What is happening isn't just a people problem. It's a GOD problem. If you want to hear the song you can find it here. Anne and I have another Politically Incorrect Knitters podcast out today. Please check it out! Ok, there has been a TON of stuff going on in the world the past week or so. It's been crazy and scary and upsetting. I plan on touching these thing on my new YouTube channel. It's exciting and scary. It probably wouldn't have happened, except I had started collaborating with another designer and it just seemed like the next logical step in the process. Anne and I have started Politically Incorrect Knitters on YouTube. The first episode is up. You can check it out here.
I can't wait to hear what you think of it. If you enjoy it please like, comment, and subscribe! I am sure you noticed, there is a lot of unrest right now. People are scared and upset. There is some absolutely insane talk of dismantling the police, and some even crazier areas that are truly going to try. Now more than ever it seems important to support our second amendment rights. So, to promote that, I have released a new pattern. It is a hat that has the option of customization with 4 different charts. You can choose : 2A DEFEND 2A 2A Stand Your Ground 2A Come and take it You can get it for 20% off until Sunday, June 7th at Midnight. You can find it in my Etsy shop. Use the coupon code DEFEND20. Please check out my fellow Politically Incorrect Knitter, Anne's shop, and if you don't already follow her on IG @annepinkava Hey Friends! It's been a little bit. I wanted to let you know about the new pattern I released today. I don't necessarily agree with everything surrounding Covid. Like how everything is shut down and there seems to be no end in sight, at least in my state. But, I do think the President and Vice President have done a great job communicating with the nation. I believe they have made decisions the best they can based on the information that has been available. So, in deference to the job they have been doing, and the upcoming eletion I am releasing the Trump bundle. In the bundle there are two charts. One is Trump Pence. The other is MAGA (Make America Great Again) KAG (Keep America Great). There are instructions to make either design into a hat or ear warmer. The pattern will be available at a 10% discount until Sunday, May 17th at 12 pm EDT. Just enter the code PENCE10 at checkout. https://www.etsy.com/listing/809818685/trump-hat-and-ear-warmer-bundle?ref=shop_home_active_1 I also wanted to invite you to another Zoom knit night tonight. It will be from 8:30 -10:30 EDT. It's a lot of fun to chat with other knitters. It's a great way to show off your current project or get a bit of inspiration. If you come please note I am implementing a few rules to make sure that everyone has an awesome time. Be nice and civil. If you disagree with someone you can have a conversation but if it gets out of hand and things start to get ugly I will boot you out. We are all stressed and do not need anything else to deal with. A large part of the problem in this country right now is we can not have a civil discussion about things. I also set it up that I have to admit you (something Zoom recommends) to make sure we don't have hackers coming in. I hope you can join us! Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82834687810?pwd=ejlNd1pXZTEvT1hHNkRoTHNKcHRLUT09 Meeting ID: 828 3468 7810 Password: 218985 As a Christian I have hope in what is yet to come. Easter is an excellent example of this. When Jesus died there is mourning and sadness, but Easter comes and there is great joy when we find the tomb empty.
Right now there are so many uncertainties. There is job loss, trouble paying bills, food sold out at the grocery stores. There are the mental uncertainties of being quarantined. People are sad and scared and don't know what to do. I have really avoided the news. It was difficult for me to watch when it seemed like nothing was changing, but this week it was different. There is now a plan in place to start going back to life as we know it. Last Sunday when I was listening to my Pastor's Easter sermon it struck me how we can draw parallels from the Easter story to our current state of affairs. We have been in a situation where there has been sadness, loss and uncertainty. It has been difficult and we have been angry and afraid of how things will turn out. But there is light. The early Christians found the tomb empty because God is faithful and fulfilled His promise. I am not naive enough to think we will wake up tomorrow and life will be back to normal. This is going to take time, but there is hope, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe God blessed us with a leader who will be able to see this through and help us become the nation we were before. I just finished a design that had been requested about a year ago, God Bless America. At the time I wasn't ready to work on it. After quarantine started it came flooding back to my mind, and it was obvious it was going to be the next project. I hope you enjoy it. It can be found in my Etsy shop. It will be available at 10% off until April 20th. I am also hosting another virtual knit night tonight at 8:30 EDT. It will go from 8:30 until around 10:30. It was a lot of fun to connect with other knitters. I hope to see you there. |
